Respiratory Therapist

Robbinsdale, MN

About this position

Provides high performance technical expertise, focused and specialized in life support measures, code response, and the care and diagnosis of both acute and chronic pulmonary disorders. Respiratory Therapists also provide a cross-divisional resource for clinical support and education in the Medical Center

What we’ll expect from you

• Responds to medical code calls for CPR, MRT, Medical Team, Trauma Team, Heart Team, and OB Stat Teams.
• Provides ventilator maintenance, management, and customer weaning on the order of a physician, or by hospital protocol and procedure
• Provides airway management to customers, and clinical expertise to other disciplines.
• Administers therapeutic services by order for both acute and chronic hospital customers.
• Administers oxygen by physician order or by hospital protocol, and serves as a clinical and equipment resource to other medical personnel in this therapy.
• Provides diagnostic services such as bedside spirometry, and near patient testing (NPT).
• Provides education for both customers and caregivers within their scope of service, and technical abilities.
• Accepts team leadership assignments as directed.
• Operates as a functional participant in the event of a HICS implementation.
• Assists in special projects as directed by the department supervisor or manager.
• Accepts other duties as assigned to promote the accomplishment of organizational goals.
• The team member is accountable to demonstrate proficiency for the skills outlined in the appropriate position skills list.
• The team member is accountable to maintain skill proficiency, including improvement where deemed necessary, and upgrading any additional or new skills on the appropriate position skills list.

• Recognizes and complies with legal, regulatory, accrediting and procedural requirements related to area of responsibility.
• Understands and follows principles and standards as outlined in North Memorial's Corporate Code of Conduct.
• Protects customer and team member privacy and only accesses customer and/or team member related information as needed to perform job duties.
• Reports violations or areas of concern to supervisor or Corporate Compliance Officer via established methods of communication.

Education

Base Requirements
• Graduate of an approved JRCRTE/COARC respiratory care program.

Level 2 Requirements
• Bachelor's degree.   

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 

Base Requirements
• Training and experience in a medical acute care environment.

Level 1 Requirements
• One (1) year of experience as an RT at North Memorial or three (3) years' experience as an RT.
• Charge training.
• Preceptor training.
• Trained in use of Disposable Bronchoscope.
• Trained in assisting with Percutaneous Tracheostomy (if performing Bronchoscopy)
• Membership in professional organization. (AARC, etc.)

Level 2 Requirements
• NICU trained
• OR Bronch Trained (if performing Bronchoscopy)
• Participation in a professional development activity including but not limited to committee membership, instructor, PFT trained, Bronch trained, conference attendance with presentation to department and misc. projects or publications. • Demonstrates an ability to communicate effectively, organize and prioritize assignments, make decisions, and exercise good judgment.
• Current RCP scope of practice at North Memorial for non-specific assignment.      

Licensure/Certification(s) Mandatory

• Current Minnesota RT License (Team members must meet all annual requirements for renewal including mandated CEU's) or obtained within two months of hire

• Must be currently certified as a BLS provider
- NMHC Standard
• Must attain and maintain certification as an ACLS Provider; only applicable for Respiratory Therapists with therapeutic in-patient contact (provided)
- NMHC Standard
• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) must be obtained within one year of hire date if hired after Januray 1st, 2017
- NMHC Standard

Level 1 Requirements
• PALS Certification
• CPFT Certification (if performing PFT Tests)
Level 2 Requirements
• NRP Certification (Required for NICU R.T.)
• RPFT Certification (if performing PFT Tests)
