About this position

The Revenue Cycle Specialist is a highly-experienced position, responsible for: leading North Memorial Health's (NMH) System Wide Revenue Cycle (RC) Strategic Improvement Initiatives throughout specified Departments, as identified by Senior Leadership.
This position's main responsibilities include: System Wide RC strategic planning, oversight and coordination of all Performance Improvement work-planning and implementation in and across all areas of the Revenue Cycle. The position also will oversee all Process Management Initiative Coordination and tracking, Procedure creation and RC data analyses, Measurement and Reporting needs.

 

What we’ll expect from you

Duties and Responsibilities:
PARTNER
• Partner with System Leadership to establish strategic goals and scorecards.
• Partner with the RC process owners (VP of RC, Directors of RC) to establish goals and specific work plans for ongoing monitoring of core functional areas (Registration, Insurance Verification, Authorization, Business Office, Charge Capture, Coding).
• Act as point of engagement for all revenue cycle (and liaison for IT system changes) enhancement decisions, changes, and related issues at the direction of RC senior leadership.
• Partner with leadership on various operational issues that pertain to AR & technology.

IMPLEMENT/MEASURE
• Translate plans into specific system balance sheet and income statement measures for entity and system-wide budgeting.
• Oversee development and maintenance of RC team member training, development, and competency testing programs.
• Create system-wide Revenue Cycle (RC) strategic and operational improvements plans.
o Accountable for ongoing oversight of all project execution, progress, data analysis and outcomes measures.
• Design and Monitor system accountability for RC policies, procedures and standards
• Monitor leading/ lagging measures (Account Receivable (AR), Denials, Write-offs) and root cause analyses and improvement solutions.

• Maintain skill proficiency, including improvement where deemed necessary, and upgrading any new skill on the appropriate position skills list.

Education

Education
• Bachelor's degree in business, finance or related field
Preferred Education
• Masters degree in business, healthcare or related field
• LEAN or Six Sigma   

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 

Experience
• Minimum 7 years in Healthcare working in Revenue Cycle, consulting, performance improvement or healthcare business operations

Preferred Experience
• Minimum 5 years in data mining or analytics
• Minimum 5 years working directly in EPIC
• Minimum 5 years of Microsoft applications, expert in excel preferable
• Maintenance of continuing education hours through AHIMA preferred • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to form effective working relationships with multiple partners with varied business interests and priorities.
o Team member relations skills and experience to engage with all levels of staff, leadership and senior leadership.
• Knowledge of Healthcare Revenue Cycle models and systems such as: Billing/ Claims Adjudication, Clearing house platforms, payer processes, denials and write offs and contracting terms and negotiations.
• Experience and exposure in a variety of RC core areas including but not limited to: Business Office, Registration, Charge Capture, Coding, Patient Access etc.
o Extensive understanding of RC functional areas and how various key functions impact measurement/ indicators.
o Strong analytical and problem solving skills and extensive knowledge and experience with process improvement methodologies and measurement.
o Ability to integrate with significant system wide performance projects (i.e. consulting engagements)
o Extensive knowledge of measurement and reporting systems as well as ability to understand, navigate, and oversee the big picture as well as individual projects.
o Ability to collaborate throughout the RC and various related business owners.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate, multitask and prioritize specific projects as well as broad system strategic initiatives (including reporting and time sensitive projects concurrently).
o Able to understand complex information and convey it to a variety of internal stakeholders in an easy-to-understand manner to foster partnership.
• Experience in healthcare system and/or working with employed and non-employed physicians
• Experience in Consulting, preferably Healthcare Consulting.
• Experience in Performance Improvement.
• Experience in RC Reporting.
o Knowledge of relational databases and reporting tools such as: Clarity, Crystal and SQL. (Join types, tables, data types)
o Able to create custom reports related to Finance, Revenue Cycle or Strategic Goals.
o Expert in Microsoft applications such as Excel.
o Knowledge of EPIC's reporting workbench, work queues, CFB, DNFC, DNFB, DNB, and Stop Bills.
