Trauma Surgeon

DescriptionWorks closely with the Surgical Director of Trauma to meet the objectives of NMHC's trauma and acute care surgery programs and assists with coordination of the programs including the development and implementation of the goals for the Trauma Service, trauma center verification, and overall development of the trauma and acute care surgery programs. This team member will ensure that quality care and appropriate treatment are delivered to the trauma and surgery customers, initiate changes as needed to improve quality of care and assist the Surgical Director of Trauma in providing management of customers assigned to the trauma and acute care surgery service. Assists the Surgical Director of Trauma with monitoring the trauma performance improvement and customer safety process. Provides surgical care and participates in the trauma and acute care surgery call schedules. Serves as a consultant to the medical and nursing staff on trauma and surgery related issues, which may include medical management questions or concerns, and reviews cases as necessary. Participates in the review of hospital policies for trauma and surgical care for conformity with standards set forth by the American College of Surgeons, Committee on Trauma and all other accrediting and regulatory agencies. Ensures regulatory compliance with accreditation, and that hospital standards of trauma and surgical care comply with local, state and federal regulatory bodies. Participates in local, state and national organizations devoted to preventing injury and improving trauma care. Participates in the quality assurance process through Hospital and Trauma Committees.RequirementsEducation

Graduate of an accredited Medical or Osteopathic School required.
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Residency required.
Successful completion of fellowship in Trauma, Acute Care Surgery, or Surgical Critical Care preferred.
Relevant clinical experience in trauma care preferred.

Experience

Relevant clinical experience in trauma care preferred.
Trauma program administration preferred.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting in providing the highest quality of care to customers and their families.

Understanding of hospital-wide and department-specific policies and protocols.
License RequirementLicensure/Certification(s)/Registration
- Board certified in General Surgery with added Qualification in Surgical Critical Care.
- Current State of Minnesota Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy license
- Valid DEA Registration State Requirement
- Current medical staff credentials in specialty NMHC Standard
- Current ATLS certification, instructor certification preferred NMHC Preferred
Additional Information- Level I Adult, Level II Pediatric Trauma Center.
- Volume over 3,000 visits per year,
- Emergency general surgery volume over 700 cases per year
- Service covers Trauma, Emergency General Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care
- Interest in resident education, outreach, research in trauma.
