About this position

The registered dietitian establishes and maintains effective multidisciplinary relationships with the healthcare team to provide customer care that is integrated and compatible with the customer-focused medical/nutritional goals and objectives across a diversified area of practice, including community and outpatient services. Practices within a population of varying customer acuity levels. Primary responsibilities include application of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP), including completion of the nutrition assessment/Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment (NFPA), determination of the nutrition diagnosis, developing and implementing nutrition interventions(s), and monitoring and evaluating of the customer's progress.
Responsibility for planning and implementing activities related to customer nutrition care based on standards established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, regulatory agencies, and North Memorial. The position is an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, is involved in team conferences, provides food and nutrition-related in-services, and contributes to the development and revision of hospital policies.
Performs business and supervisory functions, such as management of resources in a cost-effective manner, and participates in compliance and quality performance improvement efforts to ensure that nutrition care is safe and effective. The position may be involved in community-based nutrition programs and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice.
Works as a multidisciplinary team member in order to attain goals of the department and mission of North Memorial.

 

What we’ll expect from you

• Conducts customer nutrition assessments on a combination of low and high level acuity customers within scope of practice, which may include both inpatient and outpatient (community/clinic-based).
• Manages the development and implementation plan for nutrition intervention based on the interpretation of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP).
• Utilizes the assessment and evaluation techniques that consider varied needs of age-specific populations as well as cultural, religious, and ethnic concerns.
• Orders parenteral and enteral formulas per customer assessment and order sets to obtain medical and nutrition objectives and goals.
• Evaluates educational needs and the presence of barriers to learning. Provides nutrition counseling for individuals and groups, taking into consideration any adaptations to teaching methods necessary to meet customer learning needs.
• Evaluates achievement of learning objectives by the customer and/or family member. Provides appropriate follow-ups in accordance with the customer's treatment goals, referring customers for outpatient counseling, community, or home health services as appropriate.
• Delivers operational performance based on North Memorial and regulatory agency standards and programs in conjunction with an analysis of customer needs.
• Continually monitors, develops, and implements assessments and necessary action plans to provide optimal nutrition care and meal service to customers.
• Works cooperatively with medical staff and multidisciplinary team, including food and nutrition services staff, to assure conformance to medical considerations.
• Facilitates educational experiences of Aramark dietetic interns, Normandale Community College dietetic technician students, and other four year degree programs as requested.
• Operates independently and without direct supervision.
• Participates in department and other facility Peer and/or Department Reviews.
• Performs duties in accordance with all clinical productivity standards and ensures accurate record keeping takes place for daily clinical activities, including information for scheduling and billing.
• Provides appropriate and timely documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in the customer's medical record, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis, plan, implementation, and progress toward goals in the course of performing primary duties discussed above.
• Develops personal network and participates in professional organizations (local, state, national level).
• Maintains dietetic registration, state licensure, and continuing education requirements.
• Participates in hospital community programs and promotes nutrition through hospital marketing and media.
• Accepts other duties as assigned to promote the accomplishment of organizational goals.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, or related area, granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college or university. Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.   

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 

• One year experience with emphasis on clinical nutrition and responsibilities in an institutional setting preferred.
• Four years' experience with one year emphasis on Nutrition Support/Critical Care Dietitian preferred while maintaining certification. • Read, speak, and write English.
• Ability to work with a variety of customers, team members and peers.
• Effectively and efficiently utilize computer technology.      

Licensure/Certification(s) Mandatory

• Registered Dietitian Nutritionist or eligible for registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. If registration-eligible, must pass the dietetic registration exam within 6 months of hire. - NMHC Standard

• Licensed Dietitian (State of Minnesota)
