Robbinsdale Hospital, established in 1954, is a recognized top Level 1 Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. Celebrating 25+ years as a Level 1 Trauma Center, The Robbinsdale Hospital is one of just four Level 1 Trauma Centers in the state (20 operating room suites and a 353-bed tertiary hospital).


About this position
Works closely with the Surgical Director of Trauma to meet the objectives of NMHC's trauma and acute care surgery programs and assists with coordination of the programs including the development and implementation of the goals for the Trauma Service, trauma center verification, and overall development of the trauma and acute care surgery programs. This physician will ensure that quality care and appropriate treatment are delivered to the trauma and surgery patients, initiate changes as needed to improve quality of care and assist the Surgical Director of Trauma in providing management of patients assigned to the trauma and acute care surgery service. Assists the Surgical Director of Trauma with monitoring the trauma performance improvement and patient safety process. Provides surgical care and participates in the trauma and acute care surgery call schedules. Serves as a consultant to the medical and nursing staff on trauma and surgery related issues, which may include medical management questions or concerns, and reviews cases as necessary. Participates in the review of hospital policies for trauma and surgical care for conformity with standards set forth by the American College of Surgeons, Committee on Trauma and all other accrediting and regulatory agencies. Ensures regulatory compliance with accreditation, and that hospital standards of trauma and surgical care comply with local, state and federal regulatory bodies. Participates in local, state and national organizations devoted to preventing injury and improving trauma care. Participates in the quality assurance process through Hospital and Trauma Committees.

What we’ll expect from you
• Collects subjective information (history) through patient and family interviews, a review of appropriate records, and, when indicated, a discussion with patient's personal physician.
• Performs appropriate physical examination and/or procedures on patients who may include: neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults or geriatrics.
• Interprets history and physical examination data to assess and prioritize patient needs.
• Orders appropriate diagnostic studies and therapeutic interventions for identified problems.
• Informs patients and families of needs for treatment and assures appropriate consents are obtained as needed and appropriate.
• Follows patient's response related to interventions and expected outcomes and revises plans as appropriate.
• Completes documentation, communicates outcomes verbally and/or in writing to patient, family or care team in a timely manner.
• Documents physician's involvement in care of patients seen by medical students, physician extenders, and residents.
• Ensures appropriate disposition of patients.
• Maintains clinical expertise and knowledge through participation in continuing medical education.
• Remains current on and informed of clinical, documentation and operational changes.
• Participates in and supports quality improvement activities throughout the organization.
• Accepts other duties as assigned to promote the accomplishment of organizational goals.
• The physician is accountable to demonstrate proficiency for the skills outlined in the appropriate position skills list.
• The physician is accountable to maintain skill proficiency, including improvement where deemed necessary, and upgrading any additional or new skills on the appropriate position skills list.
• Recognizes and complies with legal, regulatory, accrediting and procedural requirements related to area of responsibility.
• Understands and follows principles and standards as outlined in North Memorial's Corporate Code of Conduct.
• Protects patient and team member privacy and only accesses patient and/or team member related information as needed to perform job duties.
• Reports violations or areas of concern to supervisor or Corporate Compliance Officer via established methods of communication.

Education
• Graduate of an accredited Medical or Osteopathic School required.
• Graduate of an accredited surgical Residency required.
• Successful completion of fellowship in Trauma, Acute Care Surgery, or Surgical Critical Care preferred.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
• Relevant clinical experience in trauma care preferred.
• Trauma program administration preferred.
• Excellent clinical skills and competence in area of specialty.
• Strong leadership, communication and analytical skills.
• Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting in providing the highest quality of care to patients and their families.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Understanding of hospital-wide and department-specific policies and protocols.


Licensure/Certification(s) Mandatory
• Board certified in General Surgery with added Qualification in Surgical Critical Care
• Current State of Minnesota Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy license
• Valid DEA Registration
• Current medical staff credentials in specialty
Licensure/Certification(s) Preferred
• Current ATLS certification, instructor certification preferred
