About this position

The Privacy Specialist position completes privacy program activities and functions for North Memorial Health, Maple Grove Hospital and our Epic affiliates. This position assists with privacy work plan completion, projects, data reporting, presentations, education and training.

This position is a combination of working onsite in Robbinsdale, MN and working remotely at home.  You must have high speed internet at home.  You must live in Minnesota or Wisconsin to be considered for this position.

What we’ll expect from you

• Monitors, analyzes, investigates and reports on privacy compliance as directed by the Supervisor and Privacy Officer.
• Assists with the management of business associate agreements.
• Prevents, detects and responds to information privacy concerns and incidents.
• Coordinates investigations, mitigation, sanctions and other corrective action with appropriate. workforce members including Human Resources, management and IT.
• Assists with risk assessments and breach notifications, when required within regulatory time frames.
• Maintains incident documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements for all privacy complaints or concerns.
• Conducts break-the-glass, routine and targeted audits of PHI to identify inappropriate or unauthorized access and/or disclosure.
• Assists with the amendment request and accounting of disclosures processes.
• Provides site-specific privacy reviews.
• Provides system-wide and site-specific privacy training.
• Assists with policy development and revisions.
• Assists with assessment, evaluation and monitoring of application, access, and security levels for workforce and external users of Epic.
• Accepts other duties as assigned to promote the accomplishment of organizational goals.
• The team member is accountable to demonstrate proficiency for the skills outlined in the appropriate position skills list.
• The team member is accountable to maintain skill proficiency, including improvement where deemed necessary, and upgrading any additional or new skills on the appropriate position skills list. • Recognizes and complies with legal, regulatory, accrediting and procedural requirements related to area of responsibility.
• Understands and follows principles and standards as outlined in North Memorial's Corporate Code of Conduct.
• Protects customer and team member privacy and only accesses customer and/or team member related information as needed to perform job duties.
• Reports violations or areas of concern to supervisor or Corporate Compliance Officer via established methods of communication.

Education

• Associate Degree in Health Information Management
• Bachelor's of Science Degree in HIM or healthcare related field preferred   

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 

• Four (4) years of experience consisting of two years health system or healthcare provider experience plus two additional years of healthcare privacy or security management experience.
• Registered Health Information Technician or Administrator certification
• Health Care Compliance Association CCB: CHPC/CHC preferred • Knowledge of privacy rules and regulations
• Access monitoring of protected health information skills
• Demonstrated organizational, logical, analytical, written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated data collection, analysis and reporting skills
• Knowledge of clinical documentation improvement processes

• RHIT or RHIA Certification by AHIMA
