About this position
The USC/AHN is a Registered Staff Nurse who acts as a leader and mentor in collaboration with other nursing leaders and disciplines to engage staff in pursuing North Memorial's vision, through practice of the nursing philosophy and Caring framework. The USC/AHN supports the Standards of Nursing practice when assuming responsilbity for assessing, planning, implementing, corrdinating and evaluating customer care activities delegated by the Nurse manager and or Department Supervisor.
The Registered Staff Nurse (RN) provides holistic, compassionate care to customers and families. The focus is on independent, collaborative and delegated nursing functions as described in standards and competencies specific to the assigned service area. The scope of practice may include the care of neonates, infants, children, young adults, adults, and older adults throughout the life cycle. The RN executes the Standards of Nursing Practice including: assessment; nursing diagnosis; outcome identification; planning; implementation; and evaluation. The RN develops and revises the customer's plan of care, coordinates care among disciplines and delegates activities to other customer care providers as appropriate. The RN participates in shared accountability and decision-making for nursing practices. Through active participation in practice and by implementing personal leadership qualities and skill, the RN defines, implements, and improves practice standards and the environment of care and promotes remarkable customer care.

• Accountable to set a positive tone for the shift and use the Caring framework to inspire staff to provide remarkable, compassionate care • Demonstrates criticial thinking and creativity in acting as a clinical expert and resource for staff. • Respect and support cultural needs and practices of customers, families co-workers and other customers. • Acts as a resource when ethical dilemmas arise and serves as an advocate for customers, family members, staff members, co-workers and others • Receives concerns, incidents, conflicts, and complaints and act, through evidence-based practice, to resolve them immediately or involve the Nurse Supervisor, Nurse Manager or Administrative Manager designee • Considers assessed customer needs and staff competency in determining appropriate customer placement and customer assignments. • Prepares unit for subsequent shifts by reviewing unit staffing levels and customer need to make appropriate decisions as delegated by the Nurse Manager • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide quality and continuity of customer care • Evaluates the quality of care by participate in auditing and quality improvement initiatives • Resolves medication discrepancies and assist with medication safety and security • Provides input for agency, float and unit staff performance evaluations and participate in ongoing validation of staff competencies • Assists Nurse Manger with personnel management which includes: informal coaching of staff, providing on the spot feedback and supportive suggestions to staff regarding performance, participate in panels that give input to hiring decisions and when appropriate, collaboratively work to assist with staff performance issues • Partners with Education to coordinate orientation schedules and assign preceptors as needed. • Participates in and support co-workers involved in the Shared Accountablity and Decision Making structure • Assists with time card editing and maintain schedules as delegated by the Nurse Manager • Contributes to organizational financial efficiency by understanding unit budget, financial implications of care delivery and provide assistance in meeting organizational goals related to financial excellence as delegated by the Nurse Manager • Attends and participates in meetings and collaborate with Nurse Manager to communicate pertinent items to unit • Initiates the nursing process to assess needs of customers and families; formulates nursing diagnoses that focus care and identify customer outcomes; plans nursing care that includes interventions; implements and evaluates the plan. • Uses the best available evidence, preferably research data blended with caring and compassion, to develop the plan of care and interventions. • Collaborates with customers, families, peers and other care providers to provide continuity of customer care. • Assigns or delegates tasks as defined by the state nurse practice act, organizational expectations and according to the knowledge and skills of the designated caregiver. • Recognizes emergent and unsafe situations and responds promptly and effectively. • Demonstrates awareness of ethical dilemmas and the ability to advocate for customers, families, co-workers and others in need. • Systematically evaluates the quality, safety and effectiveness of customer care practices. • Evaluates one's own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations. • Contributes to the professional development of peers, students and other health care providers and promotes shared accountability and decision making for nursing practice • Accepts other duties as assigned to promote the accomplishment of organizational goals. • The team member is accountable to demonstrate proficiency for the skills outlined in the appropriate position skills list. • The team member is accountable to maintain skill proficiency, including improvement where deemed necessary, and upgra • Recognizes and complies with legal, regulatory, accrediting and procedural requirements related to area of responsibility. • Understands and follows principles and standards as outlined in North Memorial's Corporate Code of Conduct. • Protects customer and team member privacy and only accesses customer and/or team member related information as needed to perform job duties. • Reports violations or areas of concern to supervisor or Corporate Compliance Officer via established methods of communication.

Education
• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
• Three years current experience in area of practice preferred. • Able to commit to active participation in the Shared Accountability and Decision Making structure • Demonstrated leadership skills and a high level of interpersonal communication skills • Ability to follow through on delegated tasks
