OBGYN Hospitalist

About this position

The experienced Hospitalist Ob/Gyn physician will provide 24-hour in-house coverage in a hospital setting. The Hospitalist Ob/Gyn will collaborate with experienced neonatologists and MFM physicians to accept high risk transfers and all unassigned patients. The position involves some emergency gynecologic care and the full spectrum of complex and routine antepartum hospital care and deliveries. The physician will use his/her clinical experience and will work independently in both the management of complex patients and collaborating with providers from other departments. The Hospitalist Ob/Gyn will consult with the customer and /or guardian in order to best meet customer needs.

What we’ll expect from you

Document subjective information gathered through customer and family encounters, review appropriate records, and discuss with customer's personal physician when applicable. Inform customers and families of needs for treatment and assure appropriate consents are obtained when necessary. Complete chart and/or referrals along with charge tickets according to established guidelines.
• Provide services to customers in accordance with the standards of good medical practice when called unless provider is already in the process of responding to and/or treating another life-threatening obstetrical emergency.
• Respond appropriately to any call (through the in-house communications system) to provide consultation and/or intervention in situations of life-threatening fetal or maternal obstetrical emergencies as determined by the attending physician or other NMHC staff (e.g. situations where there is no attending physician, or when an attending physician or widwife requests immediate medical assistance, etc.).
• Provide services to customers who are transferred from a referring facility for the purposes of fetal/maternal complications/evaluations which require a higher level of care or staffing than the referring facility is capable of providing at time of transfer.
• Provide back-up coverage for midwifery care as requested.Inpatient OB consultations
• Consultant for family practice service.
• Management of complex antepartum patients.
• Coordinate OB transfers in collaboration with MFM and neonatology.
• Perform postpartum tubal ligations..
• Emergency gynecologic consultations and the option to perform or refer surgeries

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Medical or Osteopathic School required.
• Board eligible of Board certified OBGYN

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 

• Relevant clinical experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology required.
• Understanding of hospital-wide and department-specific policies and protocols.
• Ability to remain or become awake and alert during on-call hours.
• Ability to answer customer and family concerns and provide medical advice as necessary.      

Licensure/Certification(s) Mandatory

• Board eligible or certified OB/GYN
• Current State of Minnesota Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy license
• Valid DEA Registration
• Current medical staff credentials in Specialty
